Scottsdale Princess
The Scottsdale Princess has been a valley icon for nearly twenty-five years. The name is synonymous with high end accommodations, first class service, and any amenity one could ever want or need. The problem with that type of reputation is that sometimes it goes hand in hand with stuffiness, overly formal employees and pretention. Not so at the Princess. Even as you drive in the private road, you get a feeling of intimacy and relaxation. The main building welcomes you in its comfortable Mediterranean style adobe with beautiful turrets and a graceful porte cochere entrance.
The lobby is comfortable and elegant, featuring a mixture of classic Mediterranean architecture. Warm wood, adobe walls, and hand wrought iron banisters, blend nicely with modern touches, like the wall dotted with tiny gold-inlaid bowls behind the registration desk. Staff members are genuinely happy to see you and are not at all stuffy. They are very informed about what events are happening at their resort, and are knowledgeable about various activities around the city.
The rooms are a sophisticated blending of southwestern, traditional and contemporary styles. The rooms have such an original aesthetic; you get the impression that yours is the only one that looks like this. Beautiful southwestern botanicals of cacti mixed with brushed nickel lamps, gorgeous nightstands wrapped in linen fabric with leather trim are just a few of the unexpected touches. It’s an eclectic design mix that creates both a cozy, yet chic space that you really don’t want to leave. That is, until you see the pool area. A beautifully designed area with an interior bench that wraps around the better part of the circumference, this pool is on par with what they’re selling the Princess, understated luxury. AN elevated spa with a waterfall that spills into the pool is a warm respite to sooth your aching bones. There are plenty of comfortable chaise lounges supplied on the lovely paver inlaid, palm-tree-sprinkled deck. You can rent a private cabana, or park yourself on one of the double lounges that are as big as a king size bed. These comfy over sized seats are at a first come-first serve basis. The pool bar offers a multitude of refreshing drinks and food to keep you sustained for your day (or days) spent at the pool. This particular pool (the south pool) is designated for adults. There is also an impressive children’s pool complete with water slides and dive-in movie nights. Luxury isn’t just for Mom and Dad at the Princess.
Nights are ambient filled. The grounds are littered with plush, intimate seating areas. Candle lit lanterns lead the pathways to many entertainment possibilities. Whether it’s dinner at Bourbon Steak, a drink at the Stone Rose Bar, or window shopping near Willow Stream Spa, know that the journey through these beautiful grounds will be just as delightful as the destination.
My one problem with the Princess is having to leave it. After spending so much time in silky soft, high thread count sheets, with an abundance of down pillows and a cloud like down comforter, ordering room service, and overall being well taken care of, it’s a major let down. The only upside to this problem is planning the next trip. The south pool is already calling my name…………
